Door County Trolley Tour
As always the best way to learn about a new area is with a narrated tour. The Door Country Trolley company offers a variety of tours including one that takes in the panoramic vistas from scenic bluffs to tours of quaint villages. Also consider their ghost, wine, and progressive dining tour.
Visit the Orchards of Door County
The County has long been a prime area for growing cherries and other produce. Most of the orchards have been family-owned for generations. Visit Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery and Market where some of the wines are named after the grandchildren. Test your skill at cherry pit spitting. Most orchards including Seaquist Orchard in Sister’s Bay offer tours, pick-your-own, and have produce for sale.

Surrounded by water with over 300 miles of shoreline there are plenty of beaches. Don’t miss a narrated boat cruise on Green Bay aboard “The Shoreline” departing from Sister Bay. There are several places to fish, rent water vehicles, and to dock your personal craft.

No visit to Door County is complete without a fish boil. Originating with the local Scandinavian settlers a fish boil starts outdoors where the potatoes, onions and steaks of fresh whitefish are boiled in a huge vat. At the time deemed appropriate by the Boil Master kerosene is thrown on the fire causing it to flare up and boil over to “Oohs” and “Ahhs” from the diners. The meal also includes cole slaw and cherry pie.

Lighthouse aficionados will love the 1869 Cana Lighthouse in Bailey’s Harbor complete with a keeper’s home. The 75-foot Eagle Bluff Lighthouse atop a 180-foot limestone bluff affords expansive views of Green Bay and the Michigan shoreline.
Door County is home to 19 beautiful county parks – wonderful places to enjoy nature. Whitefish Dunes State Park has the highest sand dunes in Wisconsin and Cave Point County Park with its picturesque swimming hole make great places to spend the day. Wisconsin’s third largest park is Peninsula State Park with eight miles of shoreline along Green Bay.

Learn to make recipes with ingredients from around the world at the Savory Spoon Cooking School in Ellison Bay. Create your own masterpieces at Hands on Art Studio in Fish Creek. The Peninsula Art School, also in Fish Creek, offers art classes year round. Learn about quilting, candle making, farming, knitting, and papermaking during your stay.

In the evening, during the summer months, the Peninsula Players, the oldest professional resident summer theater, put on professional presentations in a beautiful lakeside setting. The American Folklore Theater offers nightly shows that include “Mark Twain’s Life on the Mississippi” and the hilarious “Cheeseheads the Musical.”
